Despite going through it ourselves and our children inevitably going through it, talk of puberty is often greeted with a sense of dread by parents. In this talk, Laura Markovitz will discuss why it is important to be thinking about our children’s experience of puberty and how we interact with them around puberty.  She will provide some practical guidance about how we can ease some of the dread and feel more empowered to navigate this time.  There will also be a question and discussion period. Laura is a parent coach with a practice in Vredehoek.  She has an LLB, honours in psychology and is a PCI Certified Parent Coach®. Parents of children in grade 3 and upwards are encouraged to attend this talk as many of the prepubescent behaviours can cause anxiety and concern for parents.

Growing Minds Learning and Therapy Centre for ADHD kids

Children diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, anxiety and other such barriers can find it difficult to keep up with the fast pace of learning and heavy pressures placed on them.  Our Centre provides a nurturing space, to firstly work towards dealing with the root causes of the difficulties for the child, then to create a Differentiated Learning Programme with realistic and achievable goals and a clear plan of action.  Therapy, support and remediation is also offered as part of the programme.

We also provide a nurturing environment for children who are unable to attend school due to medical or physical reasons.  They can work in a structured environment, at their own pace, following their own curriculum until such time as they are able to return to school.

Learners who are following a homeschooling programme can use our premises on a regular basis to access a structured environment, scientific equipment and resources.  They can also get the social interaction often missed in a homeschooling environment as well as join the other learners on field trips relevant to their curriculum.

Because raising a child with learning or behavioural difficulties can be challenging, support for parents and teachers is critical.  We host regular workshops and talks by different professionals on subjects that can provide guidance, support and knowledge.  We also offer extra tuition by experienced and qualified teachers on Maths and Afrikaans for primary and high school students.
