Cecilia Forest:

It is a lovely walk even for the children with a bit of help from Mom and Dad. There is a gravel path, which you can follow or you con go up through the pine trees and explore. During the rain season there are streams to keep the children amused with frogs and other little creepy crawlies for the braver boys.

Directions: Travel along the M3 (pass the University of Cape Town on your right). Turn right at the first set of traffic lights into Rhodes Drive. Pass Kirstenbosch on your right. At first T-junction, turn right and follow that road for +-4km's and Cecilia Forest is on your right.


Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens:

This is one of the most famous botanical gardens in the world. It is a wonderful place to take a walk, have a picnic and relax while the children explore and run around. Lots or shady spots to sit with baby.  If you don't want to picnic you can visit the Restaurant.

Directions: Travel along the M3 (pass the University of Cape Town on your right). Turn right at the first set of traffic lights into Rhodes Drive.Travel +-2km's and Kirstenbosch is on your right hand side.



Rhodes Memorial:

Situated on the slopes of Devil's Peak with magnificent views from Table Bay to False Bay.

Take short walks with the kids - they will enjoy the many squirrels. You should walk to the memorial and take in the breathtaking views along with the eight magnificent lions. Have a picnic or visit the Tea Gardens.

Directions: Travel along the M3 from Cape Town, pass the University of Cape Town. Take the exit ramp to the left signposted for Rhodes Memorial. Turn right and travel under the highway and then sharp left. Drive through the double gates and follow the road all the way round, up the mountain and into the car park. 



Nature Reserve:

The reserve has a number of short walks along gravel pathways through Fynbos and beautiful Flora, taking you to numerous grassy picnic sites, some with fish ponds.

Directions: Travel along N1 towards Paarl. Take the off-ramp to Durbanville/Bellville. Turn left into Durbanville Road. Pass the Tygervalley Shopping Centre on your left. +-6km's on, you'll see an Engen garage. After the garage, take the 2nd Road left which is Tinzale Road. Drive to the T-junction, which runs into Racecourse Road. At the stop street turn right. The entrance is 200m on your left.


Rose Garden:

A real fairytale garden in the flowering season. Just the place to take some special photo's if you are a rose lover or just need a beautiful background setting.

Directions: Travel along N1 towards Paarl. Take the off-ramp to Durbanville/Bellvelle. Turn left into Durban Road. Drive past Tygervalley Shopping Centre, +-4km's on you'll see the Rose Garden on your left.



Tokai Forest;

Situated on the slopes of Table Mountain overlooked by the Steenberg and Constantia berg. Bird watching, hiking, horse riding and mountain biking are the main activities. You can collect a map at the Arboretum information office and plan a walk to suit your children's ability. During the walk you can expect to see grey squirrels, mongoose, rock dassies, baboons and cape mole rats.

No picnicking is allowed in the plantation, but there is a coffee shop for refreshments.

 Directions: Travel along the M3 towards Muizenburg, pass the Constantia turnoff and take the Retreat/Tokai exit. Drive 500m to the stop street and turn right into Tokai Road. Continue to traffic circle and cross over to Orphen Road. Continue, passing Steenberg Golf Course and the Safcol Tokai Office. At the  T-junction in front of the Tokai Manor House follow the gravel road to the left and look out for the Arboretum and guesthouse signboards.



Tygerberg Nature Reserve:

This reserve has numerous walking trails and picnic facilities. The numerous hiking trails, which are named after animals, cover +-278ha and can be walked comfortably in 2 hours. You can get a map of the walks as well as bird, animal and reptile checklist form the Educational Centre. There is a short walk down to the dam. Great for educational School outings.

Directions: Travel along the N1 towards Paarl, take the Bellville West/Welgegoed turn-off to the left signposted Tygerberg/Karl Bremmer Hospital. Turn left into Jip De Jager. At the first set of traffic lights, you'll see a big block of flats on your right. Carry on stright and at the 3rd set of lights turn left and then follow the signs through a residential area to the reserve. 



Company Gardens

The Garden is a large public park and botanical garden. Particularly in summer, when the heat is trapped in the streets of the city, a stroll through the lush gardens with numerous fountains is really refreshing. The kids will love feeding the birds and squirrels.

Directions: From bottom of Adderley Street continue up the street towards the mountain. Follow the road right ino Wale Street and left into Queen Victoria Street for parking.
