Grand West, Carnival City, Windmill, Sibaya

Event Overview

Funderland’s 11-day, interactive, festival will bring more than just the run-of-the-mill learning and play experiences to the attendees at this year’s events.  With an Extreme Tech Zone that is well worth a visit with the biggest brands in South African IT and Creative Technology, there will be something to satisfy any passion, such as MakerBot – bring along a picture of your favourite gaming character and have it 3-D printed right there at the show!

In partnership with the African Cyber Gaming League, Funderland offers a gaming zone like no other: AfrEsports at Funderland.
ACGL plans to bring a taste of gaming and eSports to Funderland with access to demo games, tournaments and the “Last Gamer Standing event”.
A variety of tournaments will be hosted for players of all ages, including all levels of gaming acumen, from beginners to seasoned pros.
ACGL is committed to the development of eSports in South Africa and runs various gaming activations and tournaments at a variety of schools and communities, as well as hosting inter-school events.
Clinton O’Shea, AKA Zombie Dredd, says “The aim at Funderland is to encourage the growth of eSports at the school level and will feature tournaments only aimed at those in high school.” Clinton owns Zombiegamer and runs TGN Racing Simulators in Cape Town. He has operated multiple gaming tournaments and events at a variety of venues and expos for over 7 years.
In addition, he adds that the event will be family-friendly and encourage teamwork between kids and their parents: “If you’re looking for new ways to engage with your kids, select tournaments will be aimed at encouraging parent and child collaboration, where the best family team will be crowned the winner.”
ACGL’s focus is to secure a sustainable and professional industry on the African continent, that leads in its development of young players and offers opportunities to perform on the world stage. Their involvement at Funderland shows their commitment to the eSports arena and is a great way to encourage young potentials to take an eSport path to success.
What is the goal:
To provide high-action, engaging play for the duration of the festival, and allow gamers with a passion for eSports to explore, develop and connect with like-minded peers. Racing, fighting games, football titles and a whole host more will be available to try, compete in, and generally enjoy.
Tickets to Funderland can be purchased on their website at and there are various packages and passes that can be bought depending on your needs and the size of your family. If you aren’t in the vicinity for this event, don’t despair - after hitting Cape Town the festival will be touring the country during school holidays so that people across SA can get in on the fun-filled, jam-packed action of Funderland.
