SA Kids On The Go

January 2017 Parenting SA Kids Newsletter Jan 2017

Dear Parents,

We would like to start off by, “Wishing you and your family a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous year ahead.”

I am sure that for some of you it is a relief that your kids are returning back to school after the busy holidays :) BUT we also know that some of you are sending your little ones to crèche or primary school for the 1st time and feeling a bit emotional. I am not going to tell you it will be easy because we all deal with things differently. If you sit in your car and cry after the 1st drop off day; or run out cheering because you will have a few hours to yourself, you are a perfectly normal mommy and we wish you all the best for the 1st big day! It is important to remember that it can take some children up to a month to settle into a routine, but before you know it, your family will be back in routine or adjusted to the new one and you will be sailing through 2017. Also remember, to ensure kids get the most out of school or even day care you must maintain an open channel of communication with the teachers throughout the year. But most important of all; make sure your kids know you're there to listen to their feelings and concerns and that you don't expect perfection, only that they try their best!

Even though the rush of purchasing and labelling uniforms and stationery; organizing kids transport to school; looking for after school activities; finding a nanny because you are going back to work; dealing with the stress of returning to bed time and morning routines; planning for travelling times and traffic tackling, are not always pleasant... somehow the few hours of peace and quiet in the mornings (albeit at the office) seem to make it all worthwhile.

No matter how much we adore our children, a little quiet here and there never did a busy mommy any harm :)

I personally don't know how home-schooling Moms cope, I think you need medals! This is how I would feel : “If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers.” - Edgar W. Howe

Kind Regards
Tania (a grade 10 student mom) & Coral-Leigh (a home-schooling mom)
